The literary work The Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum served as the starting point for planning the multi-month STEAM project. Working through several stations thematically related to the content of the novel, fourth-grade students tried their hand at constructing the Emerald Eco-City and virtually travelled to Dorothy’s home. It was also interesting for them to expand their knowledge about the heart and brain as vital organs and their ways of functioning through a series of practical activities. Following the appearance of rust, they were in the role of researchers, and they especially liked the activity in which they had fun experimenting with rainbow colors and gained knowledge about how rainbows are formed.
